Whimsy in LA: A Spooky Soiree

Updated: Jul 20, 2022

Bored of doing the normal Halloween stuff every year? Pumpkin patches, scary mazes, and horror movies not your thing? Then this unique haunted mansion experience may be just what you need to liven up your Halloween... I'm dead serious.

Set in the famous Beckett Mansion, Meyer 2 Meyer Entertainment & Fever have teamed up to put on this spook-tacular event! Secret LA, Don Julio, and Top Chico are also listed as partners; Don Julio tequila is heavily featured throughout all of the bars in the mansion. Tickets are sold for 2-hour timeslots via the Fever app - this is also where your tickets are housed. Upon arrival (either by Uber/Lyft or parking in the designated lot nearby for $2) you join a short queue for a security + ticket check. Guests are invited to the start the experience in groups, where a host wearing a very vampiric collar greets everybody and lays down the house rules.

As you walk in, a ceiling of hanging candles sets the scene as eerie guests float around you. You can explore the different rooms freely - a tarot card given upon entrance serves as your punch card to mark your six (included) cocktails. The first floor offers many activities; be sure to see the giant ouija board, watch the blacklight puppet show, or dance to the accordian player and blues singer's tunes in the lounge. Next, either make your way down to the basement, up the staircase to the scavenger hunt on the second floor, or around back to participate in "The Ritual."

The more activities you participate in, the more of the house's backstory is revealed. Everything is tied together in a really intriguing, impressive way. As the website reveals, the entire event is designed around the history of the artist Francisco Vega: "Within the walls of a decrepit and decaying house, a mad man nearing the end of his life painted six disturbing portraits depicting peculiar figures. Those paintings have become known as the Spirit Paintings, and that mad man was famed artist Francisco Vega." You'll find these paintings on the second floor of the mansion.

Be sure to explore the garden around the back of the mansion and grab a bite to eat at the food trucks around the side if you get hungry! Whether you are outside or inside, production at this event has really put hard work into every detail. There is something new and exciting, haunting, chilling, and/or humorous around every corner. Speak to the eerie residents frolicking around the party... we made friends with "Ignacio" (red fluffy cloak, white horns) and the lady in black (mask & black horns) who asked us to refer to her as "The Mistress."

Overall, this event really exceeded our expectations. It was much larger, exhuberant, and involved than my first Fever event (The Mad Hatter's Gin & Tea Party). The Spooky Soiree had that perfect balance of party glamour, scary storyline, as well as interactive elements to keep everyone constantly entertained. I will not go into deep detail of any of the activities as this would spoil the fun, but just know this event is completely worth your while.

If you have any lingering questions about the event, please feel free to comment below. Tickets can be found via the House of Spirits website.

Otherwise, have a Happy October and stay spooky, friends!
